How Lexomat ranks lawyer search results

    This page documents how our algorithm orders lawyers in search results, which parameters drive ranking, and where the algorithm ends and paid advertising begins. Disclosure is required by Slovak Act No. 108/2024 Coll. on consumer protection and EU Directive 2005/29/EC (UCPD) as amended by 2019/2161/EU (Omnibus).

    Main ranking parameters

    Organic ranking is determined purely algorithmically by relevance. A Profil+ subscription has NO influence on organic ranking (see the section below).

    • Text match between query and profile
      Keyword match between your query and the lawyer's profile text (specializations, services description, bio). Implemented via PGroonga BM25.
    • Semantic similarity
      Meaning of your query compared to the full profile content via vector embeddings (BGE-M3). Helps find relevant lawyers even without exact keyword match.
    • Geographic proximity
      When your query contains a city or region, lawyers operating in that location are ranked higher.
    • Specialty match
      Whether the lawyer's specializations directly match the legal area you're researching.
    • Profile completeness
      Profiles with required fields filled (contact, practice areas, languages) rank slightly higher. Maximum influence ~4 %; free profiles can reach 100 % completeness.
    • Profile freshness
      Recently-updated profiles rank slightly higher as a signal of an active lawyer.

    Profil+ — paid placement

    Profil+ is a paid advertising service for lawyers who want enhanced visibility in the Lexomat directory. The subscription is a flat monthly fee — Lexomat does NOT charge clients for lawyer matchmaking and does NOT take a commission on engagements.

    When your query has relevant lawyers with an active Profil+ subscription — standalone or bundled with Starter or Pro — up to three labelled advertising placements are shown above the organic results with a clear Profil+ · Sponsored badge. Candidates for these slots are selected from among lawyers with a Profil+ subscription, by your query's location and specialization. The organic results below are ranked purely algorithmically by the parameters above — a Profil+ subscription does not affect their order.

    Consistent with the Slovak Advocacy Act (No. 586/2003 Coll.), the Slovak Bar Council's Code of Conduct (2025 amendment), and EU Directive 2005/29/EC (UCPD).
